New Mother ?

New Mother ?

It is true what they say that once you have had your first baby, your life will never be the same again. Basically your 'me' time is reduced to 4.5 minutes per day and you are not as carefree or mobile as you used to be
You now have a new soul that you are responsible for, and you cannot just pick yourself up and go out any time you feel like it. Yet, having a baby does not mean you have to lock yourself up at home all the time. Try to avoid staying cooped up at home, too scared to take the baby out. . Take some time to go out together to break the monotony of feeding, burping and changing smelly nappies. With a few preparations on your side and some helpful tips, you can venture into the great outdoors with your little bundle of joy. Deciding to go out with your little one depends on several factors.
Baby's age
Your baby's age should not stop you from taking him out. According to Dr. Cherif Abdelal, pediatrician and neonatologist at Abu El Reesh Children's Hospital, the age of the baby should not restrict your decision to go out. 'You can take the baby out from day one as long as it is a full term baby and is not underweight,' explains Dr. Abdelal.
However, do not stay out too long, and do not necessarily make it a daily routine. Babies, especially newborns, do like the familiarity and security of their own home. Short and frequent outings to appropriate places will leave your baby healthy and happy.
The weather
The weather is a main determining factor in your decision to head out the door. During the winter season, aim for the warmest hours of the day, mainly between 11:00am and 3:00pm. If it is not cloudy or rainy, this would be an ideal time for both of you to go to the club or maybe a stroll in a park. You will both appreciate the change of scenery, and your baby will love the snuggle and movement of the stroller. In summer time, try to go out with your little one during the cooler summer nights; mainly between 6:00pm and 9:00pm. The fall and spring seasons usually promise good weather and you can take your baby out any time of day. Regardless of the season, always avoid crowded, noisy or smoky areas; the club or an open-air restaurant would be ideal for you and your baby to hang out.
The best time to leave home
Timing is very important. Be sure your baby is fed, burped and changed before you leave the house. If you get stuck in a traffic jam and your baby is hungry or has a soiled nappy, you are in for a huge headache!
Stay safe
Safety is an essential factor when you decide to take your baby out. Be sure to read the extra-complicated car seat manual and strap the seat and your baby securely into your car. Also check that the seatbelt holding your baby is comfortable; neither too loose nor too tight. It would also help to keep a few children's nursery rhymes tapes in the car. If all soothing attempts fail, maybe some 'Twinkle Twinkle Little Star' magic might work.
Baby's bag
One factor that will determine the success of your outing is how well-packed your baby's bag is. You and your baby should be equipped for any kind of disaster that may come your way. Your baby's bag should resemble that of Mary Poppins; stick your hand in and find anything you may need! Always carry an extra change of baby's clothes, including extra undershirts and socks. Do not forget to include plenty of bibs, a pacifier (if used), wet wipes, extra nappies, enough food for the baby (bottle or solids depending on his age), a changing mat, a small towel, an age-appropriate toy and medicine if needed. Always be sure to update the contents of your baby bag before you go out so that you do not forget anything
